I have felt pressed in my spirit of late to warn men of the folly of “hoping” in the arm of man for deliverance. Even though sometimes I feel like a “voice in the wilderness”, I press on, because in my heart of hearts, I am convinced that we are staring directly into the face of the judgment of God upon our nation. Those who know Christ must trust in Christ in this hour. Too many of us have put too much trust in the wisdom and power of man, even though the scriptures declare that “the arm of flesh will fail.”
Isaiah 31:1 declares: Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!
In Isaiah 31:3 the Lord the prophet continues his frightful warning: The Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together.
In the interpretation of the scriptures “Egypt” always is a type of the world systems – the strength of man. Over and over again we see the people of God going to Egypt for help in a crisis. The prophet declares “woe” to those who look to the world systems and not to Him for help in a time of crisis.
Good counsel is to stop turning to CNN or Fox news to see what the government is going to do next to save us. Whatever they do will be wholly inadequate. People of God, it is time to turn toward the God of Heaven for counsel and for help. “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from which cometh my help,” cried David. As for me and my family, we are trusting in the strong arm of the Lord to help us and in the w…ise counsel of the Lord to guide us. Be warned: there is no help coming from Washington, because they don’t know what to do. The natural consequences of a nation that has turned from God and looks now to its own wisdom and might is now engaging and there is no turning back. Cry out to the Lord for mercy, repent of our sins (murder, perversity, immorality, and arrogance, to name a few), and throw ourselves upon the mercies of God – you will be amazed at what He can do. We must not be ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation. We must not be ashamed to lay hold of the Name of Jesus and declare that He is our King and no other. We must, as the prophets of old, declare the judgments of God to power, warning them of the judgment that will be upon them and the nation they lead if the refuse to turn to Him.
You can depend upon Barack Obama or you can trust in the strong arm of Jesus Christ – but not both. Who will save you in the day of trouble?
When destruction was imminent in Egypt, the Hebrews were commanded to sacrifice a lamb (a prophecy of Christ who is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world) and eat it (a foreshadow of the “communion” we celebrate today). But they were also to take the blood of that lamb and cover the doorpost of their home and take their family into the house, passing through the blood. The promise was that when the Death Angel passed through the land He would pass over each house that was covered in the blood of that slain lamb. The first responsibility is to ensure that our household is covered with the blood of Jesus Christ and that our families are safely in. So many in the Body of Christ have been careless in pursuing their own children with the gospel, but men and women – the death angel’s shadow hovers over our nation. Are your children under the blood? Have you “preached” the gospel to them? Have you pleaded with them to consider the claims of Christ? Have YOU taught them the principles of the Kingdom, and have you lived the principles of the Kingdom before their eyes – or, have you taught them to trust in the world. When death came to Egypt – even Pharaoh’s house fell under judgment. There was nothing even the mighty king could do to save his own children. When the final hour comes there is nothing any king, any president, government, or army can do to save……..only the blood of Jesus is mighty to save.
Remember the chilling words of Isaiah in 31:3 – When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together. The world systems will crumble and fall before the mighty hand of God. Do not be caught up in their destruction, but abandon all trust in man and turn your heart and give your trust to the One who can deliver in the Day of Trouble.
