The Fourth Estate Has Fallen - Can the Nation Be Far Behind?
One of the unique elements of the newly formed nation we call America was what has become known as “the fourth estate.” In modern use, the term is applied to the press, with the earliest use in this sense described by Thomas Carlyle in his book On Heroes and Hero Worship: "Burke said there were Three Estates in Parliament; but, in the Reporters' Gallery yonder, there sat a Fourth Estate more important far than they all."
Our founders took great pains to preserve the freedom of the press . . .
The concept arose in British culture which saw itself in three parts: clergy, nobility, and commoners. Of course the idea was refined a bit in the colonies as our founding fathers established government in three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. And, over there - off to the side was the fourth estate, the press. The great wisdom of our founders not only acknowledged the value of a “watchdog” as healthy for the nation, They took great pains to protect it from government control. We call it a “free press.”
The first Amendment to the Constitution clearly states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Over the years, we have either recoiled or reveled in the ability of the press to bring down power. If you will remember, it was two determined reporters for the Washington Post, Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward who revealed to the nation, and the world, corruption in the Nixon administration. Every politician, especially corrupt politicians have lived in fear of a free press.
Sadly, our government no longer fears the media because at some point the press has crawled into bed with the government and the offspring of that marriage bodes ill for the Republic. Instead of digging to expose corruption, they run coverage for the government. The book of Ezekiel speaks of certain priests who cover the sins of the kings with “untempered mortar,” which is a euphemism for a whitewash job––making bad things look good. (Ezekiel 22) Historically, every government bent on seizing control of a nation has first taken control of the press/media. When the sitting government of a nation is toppled via military coup - the first place the military takes control is the radio stations and newspapers. This is called controlling the “flow of information.”
Allow me to give you an example of what I'm talking about: White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced recently that the Biden administration is identifying “problematic” posts for Facebook to censor because they contain “misinformation” about COVID-19. Psaki disclosed the government’s role in policing social media during her daily press briefing after Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called on companies to purge more pandemic posts.
“We are in regular touch with the social media platforms and those engagements typically happen through members of our senior staff and also members of our COVID-19 team — given as Dr. Murthy conveyed, this is a big issue of misinformation, specifically on the pandemic,” Psaki said.
Pandemic or no pandemic, our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves if they could see this information.
You see, the news/media are no longer keeping an eye out for corruption in government––they are helping to whitewash the actions of the government. Our current government is now in control of the media. (There are some notable and exceptional exceptions––but the MASS media is now under control of the White House.) There is no longer a truly free press in America.
This morning, I read a post from a good friend who has momentarily been released from “Facebook jail,” though not for long I expect. His words so vibrated in my spirit as I was wrestling with this piece. I thought, “He’s been reading my mail.” After I read it, I posted a quick snippet on my own Facebook Page and I have copied that for you here
The next time you see a post "fact-checked," or someone "jailed" for their posts on social media, You don't need to agree with him, but at least do yourself the favor of considering these words from my friend, David Berman:
"If we are only allowed to hear from government approved "experts," we are being lied to. It's that simple. Truth never comes at the expense of debate. Truth is not guaranteed by censorship. The only thing that censorship guarantees is that you are being lied to. That is the lesson of history." -Pastor David Berman-
Historically the Press/Media was the protector of truth and would NEVER allow the government to control the "flow of information." Now, the press/media is the partner of the government - no longer a guardian of the truth. The Fourth Estate has fallen. I'm telling you - you can like me for it or not - I really don't care, but when the guys in Washington are in control of the flow of information we are in grave danger as a nation. The brainwashing of America is almost complete. You cannot enjoy your health while bound in chains.
I have developed a healthy bevy of “fact checkers” who seem to delight in taking issue with any opinion I express and engaging in long and tedious tirades about my “lack of understanding” about COVID 19, vaccinations, and long list of other matters. I actually like several of them and consider them to be friends (although I’m not sure where they classify me). It it is not at all that I don’t understand––I DO understand, and it scares the daylights out of me to think of the shock many in our nation are going to experience when it becomes clear what is going on in Washington right now, with absolute complicity from the very body that at one time protected us from nefarious individuals and groups who have bad intent for our nation.
The fourth estate has fallen––can the nation be far behind?
