Sharpening the Iron of the Church

What is inconvenient for some is a disaster for others. The Deaf community in Kenya has been economically devastated by the COVID 19 pandemic. Families are hungry with no way to obtain food.

As many of my friends are aware, I have been deeply involved in ministry to the Deaf in Kenya for almost fifteen years now. I spent the better part of the last ten years or so helping to plan and fund the purchase of land and construction of a campus for the school. That campus is now complete and the school has become one of the leading schools for special needs children in the entire country. It has been a time of personal relief for me that I have not had to work so hard to raise funds for construction. Two years ago this week, I dedicated a beautiful ten classroom, four offices Academic Center.  What a joy it was to come to the end of that journey with the school. In the past two years, we have been supporting the staff and faculty by underwriting their salaries.

I was saddened today to receive an urgent appeal from Wesely Agengo, our headmaster at the Immanuel Christian School for the Deaf informing me that because of the COVID 19 pandemic, the Deaf in Kenya have been severely affected. Many families have no food and no way to get food. An already difficult life has been made even more difficult by this pandemic. Wesley Agengo has been doing his best to help provide food for the Deaf families in his area, but his limited resources are gone.

This is not going to be a long, dramatic, and eloquent appeal. I simply want our friends to know that the Deaf in Kenya are in great need. I wrote a check this afternoon to send in relief. It was not enough and it completely drained our ministry account. I have $29.00 left in the bank. I was able to send $1,000 USD, but it will scarcely impact a need that is so great. We are not just talking about the students at the school, but their families and the Deaf Community at large.

I’ve given you all the appeal you need. Deaf families are suffering. If you can help, please do so today.  Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Go to www.kenyadevfund.org where you will find a Donate Now button on the landing page. You can give via PayPal or by Credit Card.

     2. You can send a donation directly through your PayPal account by sending funds to KDF@mkgantt.com

     3. Mail a check to Kenya Development Fund, 30 Canal Street, Brattleboro, Vermont 05301

Please help!

Father, I pray in the mighty name of Jesus that you will come to the aid of this fragile community in Kenya. I pray that you will move generous hearts to give liberally to purchase food supplies for the Deaf Community in Western Kenya. I read in the Bible where you were “moved with compassion” because of the needs of the people. Be moved with great compassion Lord Jesus – be moved.  I thank you for your faithful supply. In Jesus Name, Amen.
